Gall’s Law

"A complex system that works is invariably found to have evolved from a simple system that worked. A complex system designed from scratch never works and cannot be patched up to make it work. You have to start over with a working simple system." -- wikipedia.

WiderPoV: Gall’s Law is guidance for starting something new. But continuation and incremental evolution is more normal for most leaders. We wrangle a hodgepodge, ragtag, island of mismatched lost toys. We only wish we could begin anew.

When you can’t start fresh, how do you induce elegance, simplicity, and resilience from your inherited, impossibly intricate, variegated, fragile mass of interconnection and interdependency? That’s the challenge.
